Hornby’s new Advanced Passenger Train has been well received - but can it replicate the real thing's achievements? TREVOR JONES tests it to the limit to find out.
Like many rail enthusiasts, I love seeing trains run fast and set records. In the 1960s, my main pursuit was travelling behind steam locomotives, logging the speed and forever hoping to do Waterloo to Woking in a faster time. Eventually one day I was lucky enough to have a driver and fireman who had missed breakfast and were determined to reach their destination as quickly as possible, hence an even time stop to start of 24¼ mins for the 24¼ miles.
