Hornby’s Rivarossi ‘BIG BOY’

We rarely cover overseas models in Hornby Magazine, but the legendary Union Pacific ‘Big Boy’ from the United States of America is an exception to the rule. MIKE WILD takes a closer look at this exclusive anniversary model from Hornby’s international brand, Rivarossi.

WHEN WE THINK OF big locomotives Riddles ‘9F’ 2-10-0s and LMS Beyer, Garratt 2-6-0+0-6-2s spring to mind but, compared to the giants of steam in America, our engines were small. The biggest of them all was the Union Pacific ‘Big Boy’ 4-8-8-4 which served the famous American railway company from 1941-1959.
