Britain’s famous and very popular coastal resorts prompted DAN EVASON to show how easy it is to create a beach scene in ‘OO’ gauge in which you can almost smell the candy floss and fish and chips.
There’s nothing quite like the Great British Summer – and where better to enjoy it than the seaside? Despite the appeal of sunnier climes, beaches all over Britain are hugely popular for swimming, surfing and even, occasionally, sunbathing.
Our railways were quick to cotton on to this, with regular excursions to resorts such as Ayr, Rhyl, Blackpool, Scarborough, Bournemouth, Newquay and many others. In fact, such was demand in the 1930s that passengers leaning their heads out of windows at places such as Dawlish Warren could see a procession of other excursions ahead of theirs heading for the beach in Glorious Devon!
