The Italian firm has re-released Occidental’s 1/48 Mk.IX for the seventh time, but with new colour schemes. CHRIS CLIFFORD takes a look.

ITALERI SPITFIRE MK.IX REISSUED AGAIN

Occidental first released its 1/48 Spitfires (Mk.IXe/IXc/XVIe) from 1998 onwards. The novice might think it a good effort due to the fine panel lines and respectable detail in places. However, purists immediately spotted shape issues – mostly around the nose, spinner and upper engine cowling – but this didn’t stop Italeri from repackaging it on various occasions. The cockpit detail is rather clunky too, but more on that later.
