‘J50’ 0-6-0T ‘N’ext for Sonic

‘J50’ 0-6-0T ‘N’ext from Sonic Models

Sonic Models has revealed details of its next ‘N’ gauge locomotive – the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) ‘J50’ 0-6-0T.

Built in the 1920s and 1930s, more than 50 ‘J50’ 0-6-0Ts entered service with the LNER and were primarily utilised on shunting and light goods work.

Sonic Models’ all-new ‘N’ gauge ‘J50’ has been developed in conjunction with Revolution Trains, with eight versions planned in the first batch of releases including 610 in LNER lined black, 621 in LNER plain black, 1045 in LNER plain black, 8962 in LNER plain black, 68958 in BRITISH RAILWAYS plain black, 68973 in BR plain black with early crests, 68965 in BR plain black with late crests and 68961 in BR plain black with late crests.

Development work is already at an advanced stage with first Engineering Prototype (EP) samples currently being tested.

Steam brake (‘J50/3’) and vacuum brake (‘J50/4’) examples are being produced and they will reflect prototypical differences such as GNR or LNER buffers, open or plated coal rails, plain or fluted coupling rods, raised or flush Ross pop valves and additional shunter's footstep (where appropriate).

The specification will follow Sonic Models’ newly-arrived ‘N’ gauge GWR ‘56XX’ 0-6-0T with similar motor set-up, 6-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, detailed cab interior and much more.

Priced at £109.95 each, the ‘J50’ 0-6-0Ts will be available exclusively through Rails of Sheffield. Delivery is anticipated during the second or third quarter of 2022.
