TOMCAT TREAT

TOMCAT TREAT

POLISH PUBLISHER Kagero has launched a new Kit Build series, with the first issue covering Grumman’s mighty F-14 Tomcat.

The A4-sized offering contains 66 pages and features 11 full colour profiles and two build features: Tamiya’s 1/48 F-14D is finished as a VF-101 ‘Grim Reapers’ airframe and a 1/72 scale FineMolds F-14A receives a camouflaged Naval Strike and Air Warfare Centre scheme. Both are pure ‘how-to’ articles, with in-progress photos followed by finished shots of the models. While the techniques involved are intended for more experienced modellers, including airbrush mottling, scratch-building and use of resin aftermarket products, there’s plenty for all. It has many hints and tips, such as how to create staining on the pneumatic wing glove seals (which inflate/deflate depending on the wing sweep angle). As a bonus, there’s also a small decal sheet, with low-vis markings in 1/72 and 1/48 for a VF-111 ‘Sundowners’ airframe.
