The Canadian aftermarket wizard’s latest product is a set of stunningly detailed undercarriage units for Tamiya’s recent F-4B/N Phantom II.

LOVELY LEGS: KAZAN’S 1/48 PHANTOM UNDERCARRIAGE

If you have Tamiya’s 1/48 new-tool F-4B Phantom II – released last year – you are already onto a winner. However, any kit can stand to receive more refinement if desired. With that in mind, the new undercarriage set (KAZ48012TAM) from Kazan Model Dynamics, designed to fit Tamiya’s ‘Spook’, offers an eye-popping level of detail via its 3D-printed resin parts.

All three undercarriage legs are supplied on the now familiar printing stems, but the attachment points are slight so part removal will be simple. The legs are certainly sharper in detail than Tamiya’s styrene versions, and Kazan's set also provides separate inner and outer hubs for the mainwheels, featuring sublime brake detail. Hydraulic lines are printed in situ where necessary, and the attendant retraction struts are also present. Best of all, though, the legs are hollow, with lengths of real metal tube being offered for sliding inside the legs, to replicate the polished steel oleo sections. Another bonus is that you get optional retraction struts with locking collars in situ – and replacement mainwheel bay doors.

The legs can be fitted directly to Tamiya’s kit with a little modification, but they are designed to attach to Kazan’s own 3D-printed resin F-4B wheel wells (KAZ48010TAM), designed to fit Tamiya’s 1/48 Phantom. The undercarriage set costs $49.99 and is available direct from Kazan.
