Our hobby has something to offer every interest at any level from coarse to finescale and steam to diesel. A layout is about more than just the trains though as Greg Brookes’ fabulous Shenston Road illustrates. Look out for a full feature on this impressive ‘EM’ gauge layout in the next issue of Hornby Magazine – on sale on March 5 2020.

THERE’S no such thing as a BR Standard Hornby Magazine reader. Some like the steam era, others go for diesels and there are distinct interest points within even those two sweeping genres. Some are very much slanted towards the artistic side, others are fired up by the latest technology. Some will have a layout of their own, others won’t, and some may have no intention of ever building one. For every ‘N’ gauge modeller there are a dozen or more who work in 4mm scale, of whom the overwhelming majority model in ‘OO’ as opposed to the ultra-realistic gauges of ‘EM’ or ‘P4’ Some will do a bit of modelling every day, others may not have done anything for months if not years but still call themselves railway modellers, and rightly so.
