WHERE MIND MATTERS
Kilmarnock railway station, on Scotland’s west coast, is a unique setting for a thriving social hub.
At its core, The Kilmarnock Station Railway Heritage Trust supports various activities in a range of previously derelict and unused rooms, located adjacent to Platform 1. Now fully refurbished, they include: electric bike hire, a bakery, Station Café, Deli, railway resources room and even a model shop – Station Gamers. This offers not just a growing range of model kits, accessories and a selection of die-cast collectables but, in conjunction with the ‘Mind Matters’ programme, classes on how to build, paint and display the kits. Designed to be more than just about building the models, it also supports vulnerable participants and there are plans to set up and run club activities; a real creative hub.
Activities are available for clients and users of the charity’s services and members of the model-making community. Facilities include a café, presentation rooms and space for building/painting kits. Station Gamers is just one expression of the ethos behind Kilmarnock Station Railway Heritage Trust – where mind matters really matter.
