Last available five years ago, Kinetic’s 1/48 E-2C Hawkeye 2000 is back again with fresh decals, as CHRIS CLIFFORD discusses.

Modellers into naval aviation have reason to rejoice with the re-release of Kinetic’s 1/48 E-2C Hawkeye 2000. It now comes as item K48135, with two new sets of markings for a US Navy airframe operated by VAW-123 ‘Screwtops’. If you’re unfamiliar with this kit, you’ll be taken with its heft. The Hawkeye is a large aircraft and it has presence even in 1/72 scale. In 1/48 it’s properly imposing, with 35.5cm-long fuselage halves (sans nosecone) and, of course, the large radar-filled rotadome – here sporting a diameter of 15cm – and it can be made to rotate if desired. While some modellers may be super-keen to build this model, display space could be an issue if the wings are set in flight mode. The saving grace is that for versatility, Kinetic also provides the means of positioning the wings folded.
