BUILDING KINETIC’S NEW F-16

Kinetic has featured a family of 1/48 F-16s in its product range for several years, covering almost the whole family of this ubiquitous fighter aircraft. However, they were not without several well-documented accuracy and shape issues, plus the occasionally ‘chunky’ engineering. When the firm announced in 2022 that a new tooling of (initially) F-16A and C variants would be released in its Gold series, the news was warmly received. For this article we built the F-16A MLU NATO Viper boxing (K48100), which covers the European export versions of early airframes after a Mid-Life Update (MLU). These had updated avionics and weapons systems, which brought it up to approximately the US Air Force’s F-16C equipment standard.
