Arma Hobby’s new 1/72 P-51B/C arguably – and quickly – secured the ‘best example in this scale’ accolade last year. However, a pleasing and wallet-friendlier alternative lies in the recently re-released tooling from Kovozávody Prostějov, as CHRIS CLIFFORD explains…
Few modellers would argue the fact that Arma Hobby’s 1/72 P-51B/C Mustang is the best of the bunch, for accuracy and quality. Price-wise it’s also fairly reasonable at £26.60 for the Expert Set, and £19.99 for the Mustang Mk.III boxing. The former allows you to build B/C variants, the RAF Mk.III and recce-focused F-6.
But if you are modelling on a budget, the 1/72 P-51B/C/F-6 kits from the Czech firm Kovozávody Prostějov (KP), really are worth investigating. There have been various re-issues since it was first launched in 2015, including re-packaging by AZ Model. Four new boxings appeared last year, and here we look at KP’s P-51B ‘Mustang Malcolm’ product (KPM0247), which costs just £13.70 at Hannants: www.hannants.co.uk
