ASSYMETRIC FIGHTER: SPITFIRE MK.IIA LR FROM KP

Czech company KP has steadily grown its 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire family due to a mix of thoughtfully moulded generic runners, new parts and fresh decal sheets. An interesting addition to the range, and a much less common variant, is that of the Mk.IIa (LR), the latter part of that designation standing for ‘Long Range’. This was a based on a standard Mk.II airframe, but with the addition of a single, fixed fuel tank under the port wing. A small number of these airframes – around 50 – were produced to explore range extension before the advent of bespoke drop tanks.
