Clayton CBD90

KR Models has announced plans to produce a 'OO' gauge ready-to-run model of Clayton's CBD90 hybrid shunting locomotive to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the railway equipment manufacturer.

The Clayton CBD90 is the manufacturer's first battery-diesel hybrid locomotive and the largest railway engine to be built in the UK for 20 years. The CBD90 weighs 90tons and runs on a Bo-Bo chassis with the CBD90 now in service with Tata Steel, Sellafield and Beacon Rail. In total 24 have been built since March 2019.

The CBD90 can operate from onboard batteries for emission free running or from a low emission EU Stage V diesel engine. Other features of the Clayton design include on-board or depot-based battery charging, remote control operation from the trackside, multiple working for two locomotives and regenerative braking.

KR Models product development is at an early stage with release dates to be confirmed. Prices start from £160 for a DCC ready version and expressions of interest for the 'OO' gauge ready-to-run model are open now at KR Model's website with option for DCC ready and DCC sound fitted models expected.
