KR Models SR Bulleid Leader

KR Models recently received its Engineering Prototype (EP) of its ‘OO’  Southern Railways (SR) experimental Bulleid ‘Leader’ 0-6-0+0-6-0T steam locomotive.

‘Leader’ was Oliver Bulleid’s last big project for the Southern Railway with only one of the five planned completed after a three-year build at Brighton Works. It was delivered into service with British Railways in 1949.

The unique design featuring driving cabs at each end and a central fireman’s position could easily be mistaken for a diesel locomotive today. KR Models version features a heavy die-cast chassis, a 21-pin decoder socket, directional and cab lighting, etched grilles, a centrally mounted motor with flywheels, sprung buffers and flush glazing.

Five liveries are proposed with prototype grey with and without crest, BR black with early crest, BR green late crest and BR blue. KR Models says it is pleased with the weight from the full die-cast chassis and the quality of the underframe detail.

Prices are set at £185 DCC ready, £215 DCC-fitted and £285 DCC sound-fitted. Delivery is anticipated during the third quarter of 2022.
