Having released its first Painting Guide earlier this year, Lifecolor has yet again joined with MrBlack Publications to bring us Volume 2.
Several acrylic paint manufacturers have already produced tutorial books, but this year, Lifecolor dipped its toe into the water with its Painting Guide Vol.1… and again with help from noted figure-focused publisher MrBlack.
Volume 2 is now available, offering more suggestions, techniques and general instruction. Like other books of this ilk, ostensibly the aim is to promote the particular paint brand and its products. But actually, as many acrylics have similar properties, the advice therein could be applied to many paint brands.

In Vol.2 the contributors – Theodosis Giannakidis, Allessandro Gobbi, Martin Hughes, Christos Katselos and Vincenzo Lanna – offer the benefits of their skill and experience via five separate projects. There’s a female fantasy figure, which highlights how to employ Lifecolor’s Non Metallic Metal paints, a 1/48 Hobby Boss captured ‘Beutepanzer’ KV-1 tank, and how to apply its camouflage/weathering, and you can even learn how to paint sandbags effectively.
Also present is a Part 2 on recreating the so-called ‘rat look’ on a car, the example here being Tamiya’s 1/24 VW Beetle. The final chapter deals with painting a 1/35 horse-drawn wooden cart, with the aim of emulating worn wood authentically. Each section provides a Lifecolor paint chip table for speedy reference, too.
This isn’t a weighty publication by any means, at just 36 pages (including covers), but it offers worthy advice and is a wallet-friendly option at £10.99, direct from The Airbrush Company: www.airbrushes.com
