Various subjects and genres have been covered in Lifecolor’s first two painting guides, both published earlier this year. Obviously a vehicle for promoting use of the acrylic paint brand, the instruction in these useful guides can also be adapted to other manufacturers’ colours. Therefore, they are handier than you might initially think.

As with volumes 1 and 2, volume 3 is also produced in conjunction with modelling book publisher Mr Black, so the quality of the information imparted, and the standard of execution, is assured. Three projects are included in this 36-page book. They advise on the painting and weathering of a 1/35 Hobby Boss tank kit (German VK1602 Leopard), how to paint a scale wooden house with Lifecolor hues and liquid pigments, and the completion of a  large-scale bust (Nutsplanet 1/10 Afrika Korps troop).

Figure painting especially can be daunting for the novice, and the step-by-step advice here is worthy indeed, particularly when it comes to the realistic painting of eyes. The house painting coverage is useful for any diorama modeller, whether they’re tackling military or civilian scenes, and the armour-finishing piece has a wealth of great advice for legions of tank-modelling fans regardless of experience. As with the first two instalments, per-project colour chips are offered as ready reckoners.
