February 24 2023 celebrated 100 years since the locomotive was completed at Doncaster Works and it later became the first steam locomotive to officially reach 100mph and also the first to circumnavigate the globe, touring in America and Australia.

The new ‘OO’ gauge model will form part of the National Collection in Miniature series and is set to be available from summer 2023 with pre-orders open now through the Locomotion Models website.

The 1924 Empire Exhibition edition of Flying Scotsman (Cat No. R30295) will feature turned metal wheels, NEM coupling pockets, a 21-pin decoder socket, space for 28mm round speaker and a five-pole motor. It will also use Hornby’s latest tooling for the Gresley ‘Pacific’ which incorporates a die-cast running plate on the locomotive as well as firebox flicker.

Hornby Marketing and Development Director Simon Kohler said: “Quite a few years ago I managed to persuade my then CEO that Hornby should create a suite of tools that would allow us to produce as many variants of Flying Scotsman as possible. Through these models, Hornby has had the privilege of forging a strong relationship with both the NRM and the Science Museum. We are proud and honoured to be part of Flying Scotsman’s centenary celebrations.”
