The US decal designer has released a handy waterslide decal sheet for anyone building a 1/72 US Navy/Marines F-4.
Perhaps the kit decal sheet in your 1/72 F-4B/J/N/S Phantom kit might be damaged, or you want to work up a different scheme entirely, the recent decal sheet from MILSPEC – a sub-brand of Custom Aeronautical Miniatures – could be just what you need.
Item 72-005 offers three whole sets of formation ‘slime’ lights, plus as many pairs of wing and intake/fuselage walkways… these all being in different shades. One set is black, the other mid-grey and the third a more greenish shade of grey. No Federal Standard codes are quoted, however.
All you have to do when researching your desired colour scheme is to note the walkway colour on the real airframe, and whether the specific machine is fitted with formation strips (of the naval sub-types, the F-4S was equipped with these). Note that other naval/marine Phantom sub-types can wear these walkways, such as the RF-4B, EF-4B and QF-4B.
Decal opacity is good and the register equally so. It’s a useful product for any Phantom fan building in 1/72 scale and it costs just $6 from Custom Aeronautical Miniatures... but it’s also at Hannants in the UK.
