Modelsvit’s 1/72 Mirage 2000-5F is a highly impressive package, as Chris Jones discovers
French aviation stalwart Dassault is perhaps best known for the legendary Mirage series of fast jets, and the 2000-5F is the most recent upgrade to that type’s single-seat variants. It introduced a number of upgrades, including a glass cockpit, new radar and the ability to use ‘Fox-3’ (fire-and-forget active-radar) missiles... a massive capability leap compared to the older ‘C’ version, fitted with semi-active radar-homing missiles. In service with the French Air Force, the Mirage 2000-5F is dedicated entirely to the counter-air role, where the fleet is used for QRA (quick reaction alert) duties and to train for ‘first entry’ missions. If the Armée de l’Air goes to war, the Mirage 2000-5Fs will be in the first wave to deal with enemy fighters.
