New ‘Grid’ for ‘OO’ from Cavalex

Cavalex Models has unveiled plans to produce an all-new ‘OO’ gauge BR Class 56 Co-Co diesel.

Currently at the tooling stage, the manufacturer is planning to produce all variants of the Class 56 to cover Romanian built 56001-56030, Doncaster built (Romanian design) 56031-56055, Doncaster built (UK design) 56056-56090 and Doncaster and Crewe built 56091-56135, enabling examples from the entire 135 locomotive class to be accurately modelled. The new project has been in development for some time using original works drawings from Electroputere and British Rail Engineering (BREL) as the basis. 

Cavalex Models is intending to release examples that don’t conflict with existing models on the market, as well as offering livery combinations not previously seen for ‘OO’.

12 models form the initial batch of releases with liveries reflecting the Class through the years including BR blue, BR large logo blue, BR Railfreight (original), BR Railfreight (red stripe), BR Railfreight Sector triple grey (Coal/Construction/Metals), Loadhaul, EWS and Colas Railfreight. The newly-tooled model's specification includes heavy alloy chassis, all wheel pick-up, five-pole motor, twin flywheels, 21-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, photo-etched metal grilles and a wealth of separately applied parts. All models will be fitted with an EM2 digital sound speaker as standard and a number of innovations are planned including separately motor-operated roof fans.

Cavalex Models’ new ‘Grid’ will only be available to pre-order/purchase through retail stockists of the company’s products - C&M Models, Colletts Models, John Dutfield Model Railways, KMS Railtech, Rails of Sheffield, Rainbow Railways, Trains4U and Ultimate Model Railways.
