NIGHT PROWLER

José Pires delves into the dark hours with a 1/72 Heinkel He 219 Uhu from Platz.

NIGHT PROWLER

Boasting an interesting fuselage arrangement and twin tails, plus being adorned with a vast antenna array, Heinkel’s He 219 Uhu (eagle owl) has long been of interest for many modellers and aviation enthusiasts. Although plagued by power games inside the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM, the German aviation ministry), and a convoluted genesis, the combat debut of this machine was impressive, with five RAF bombers claimed on the first sortie. Post-war evaluation by Allied forces showed that despite the poor manoeuvrability and seriously under-powered characteristics, the He 219 was still a fearsome opponent.
