Nuclear traffic provides ideal train lengths for layouts of any size.TIM SHACKLETON looks at some simple techniques for weathering these short freight trains of recent years.

Above: DRS’s FNAs have got into a sorry state in recent years and having been replaced by newer stock, many of them are stored out of use at Sellafield.A single wagon hauled by several thousand horsepower has an undeniable impact. The Dapol Class 68 is, in my view, one of the very best locomotive models of recent years.

Above: The inspiration: On June 27 2018, a pair of DRS Class 68s provide more than adequate power for a single FNA nuclear flask wagon, passing Heads Nook (just east of Carlisle) en route from Seaton-on-Tees to Sellafield.
