OLFA TOOLS NOW AT TYRELL MODELS

Olfa is an established brand used by tradesmen and art/craft hobbyists – but it is making greater inroads into plastic modelling as with many products there is cross-hobby appeal. Selected products from the firm are now being sold by Tyrell Models and they include the following:

OLFA TOOLS NOW AT TYRELL MODELS

AK-4 Professional Art Knife with Comfort Grip (£14.99)
A handy general-purpose knife handle, with a strong slotted ‘chuck’ that locks positively when tightened, thanks to a slot system. It comes with two standard blades, plus curved and chisel examples (one each). The black, twisting part of the handle has a comfort grip, while the rear of the handle sports a protruding stub to prevent the knife rolling off your workbench. Usefully, the spare blades come in their own container, which can be replenished to suit, and a safety cover (also with an anti-roll stub) for the mounted blade is provided.

AK-5 Designer’s Art Knife (£7.99)
This is a boon for anyone who needs a sharp knife, but also embarks on sculpting projects, such as figures. While the slotted blade-holder can accommodate Olfa’s 30-degree blades (30 being provided), it can also hold a needle tool also supplied. Meanwhile, the rear of the handle is shaped in spatula form. This, and the needle, are perfect for figure sculpting, in terms of forming shape and adding detail. It comes with a protective blade/needle cap and a container for new and spent blades, plus the needle.

SAC-1 Modellers’ Snap Knife (£6.99)
Snap blades are useful as they negate the need for separate blades when they blunt. Here, you simply snap off the blunt blade to reveal a new replacement. There are seven blade segments in total, all on a sliding arrangement with an auto-locking mechanism. A good, strong knife with a pen-style clip designed for pockets.

CK-2 Stainless Steel Craft Knife (£6.99)
When you need an even stronger blade for heavy cutting jobs; say, thick styrene sheet or even carving lighter varieties of wood and other materials for scenic modelling. The 105mm blade slides in and out of the handle for safe storage, being locked in place by a knurled brass wheel.

PC-S Standard Plastic/Laminate Cutter (£6.99)
Often known as the ‘P-Cutter, this Olfa tool is a staple scribing implement for many modellers. It’s great for creating completely new panel lines, or reinstating lost lines after seam sanding. The hook-shaped blade is retractable and two spare blades are a provided, being stored in the handle.

DC-6 Desktop Blade Disposal System (£13.99)
Anyone using snap-blade knives can be tempted to simply use pliers to remove the dull blade sections to reveal the new. This, frankly, is asking for trouble and it’s much safer to use a proper ‘sharps’ disposal tool. Enter Olfa’s example, which snaps away spent blade segments safely, away from your fingers, via a simply operated internal clamp. The disposal box is sturdy and sits in a separate cradle, which is also equipped with knife storage area with adjustable divider.

All these handy items are available direct from Tyrell Models and they can certainly make your existing modelling tool armoury more versatile.
