KR Models has revealed that its next ‘OO’ gauge wagon project will be a Great Western Railway ‘Mica B’ ventilated refrigerated meat van.
Built in the mid-1920s at Swindon, these six ton wooden bodied vans were used to transport chilled meat to market. Inside they were lined with metal and featured refrigeration equipment and dry ice receptacles which could be loaded from the roof. They were painted white with distinctive red lettering.
Development work on KR Models’ all new ‘OO’ gauge wagons is at an advanced stage with CAD drawing work complete and tooling imminent. Six wagons are planned initially, finished as vehicles 105873 (preserved at Severn Valley Railway), 105852, 105901, 105860 (preserved at Didcot Railway Centre), 105923 and 105966. They will be available either individually or across two triple-wagon packs.
Priced at £30 per wagon and £75 per triple-wagon pack, release is currently slated for late 2023.
