RE-WORKED PANZER TRACTS BOOK – Sf. ARTILLERIE

Panzerwrecks continues to revise and reissue previous Panzer Tracts reference books. A recent addition explores self-propelled artillery, as CHRIS CLIFFORD reports.

RE-WORKED PANZER TRACTS BOOK – Sf. ARTILLERIE

The subject of open-topped armour is splendid for military modellers as it allows more detail to be viewed on any given model. With that in mind, a worthy reference lies in the recently returning Panzer Tracts No.10-1, Sf. Artillerie, Pz.Sfl.IVb to Hummel-Wespe.

This 90-page goldmine is packed with scale drawings and period photos of different tracked artillery pieces and their sub-types. Subjects are the Wespe, Heuschrecke IVb, Le.F.H.18/40/2 (Sf) auf Geschützwagen III/IV and Sd.Kfz.165 Hummel, along with a brief look at the Hummel-Wespe. A strong strand throughout the narrative is that of development and improvement, with plenty of detail on this subject being imparted. The photos are clear and useful, showing structural nuances that will help with assessing accuracy and aiding in scratch-building. The scale drawings are even more useful in this regard, there being side/front/rear elevation, plus plan views and scrap studies. Data tables are provided too, featuring performance details, measurements, armour thickness and the like.
