RAF CARGO KING

RAF CARGO KING

If the S&M Models Handley Page Hastings is too big a proposition for you in 1/72 scale, why not plump for the delightful 1/144 version by Ukrainian firm MikroMir? CHRIS CLIFFORD reviews the latter kit of this classic transport.

RAF CARGO KING

I’ve had a love affair with the mighty Handley Page Hastings ever since I first visited the RAF Museum Cosford, when I was 15. On entering the hangar I was greeted by this incredibly imposing machine, with its steeply inclined fuselage due to the height of the nose... and it left a lasting impression.

For years there wasn’t an injection-moulded kit of the type – just the 1/144 product by Welsh Models, and Formaplane's 1/72 version, both being vacuum-formed items. When the late Mel Bromley’s S&M Models released a 1/72 injection kit, I soon realised it was just too large for my display cabinet. At the time, though, Mel did tell me that MikroMir was planning a 1/144 Hastings C.1… perfect!
