Rails shows '812' livery samples
Rails of Sheffield has received decorated samples of its exclusive model of the Caledonian Railway '812' 0-6-0 from manufacturer Bachmann ahead of the models expected release in the second quarter for 2021. Available to pre-order now with a £30 deposit, the full price per locomotive is £179.95 for LMS and BR black versions and £199.95 for Caledonian Railway blue examples.
The McIntosh '812' 0-6-0s were introduced between 1895 and 1914 with a total of 79 being built by St Rollox Works and outside contractors Neilson Reid, Sharp Stewart and Dubs. The last was withdrawn in 1963 and one survives today - 828 at the Strathspey Railway in Scotland where it was due for withdrawal for overhaul in 2020.
Rails of Sheffield's model has been produced with the support of the Caledonian Railway 828 Trust and is made by Bachmann. The specification includes a locomotive drive, tender mounted decoder socket, turned metal wheels, fully detailed cab interior and small tension locks in NEM coupling pockets.
Five versions are due for release modelling the '812' class through its career. They model 828 in as built Caledonian Railway lined blue (Cat No. 35-280Z), 17566 in LMS black (35-281Z), 57565 in BR black with early crests and weathering (35-282Z), 57566 in BR black with late crests (35-283Z) and 828 in as preserved Caledonian Railway lined blue with maroon underframes (35-284Z).
