The McIntosh '812' 0-6-0s were introduced between 1895 and 1914 with a total of 79 being built by St Rollox Works and outside contractors Neilson Reid, Sharp Stewart and Dubs. The last was withdrawn in 1963 and one survives today - 828 at the Strathspey Railway in Scotland where it was due for withdrawal for overhaul in 2020.

Rails of Sheffield's model has been produced with the support of the Caledonian Railway 828 Trust and is made by Bachmann. The specification includes a locomotive drive, tender mounted decoder socket, turned metal wheels, fully detailed cab interior and small tension locks in NEM coupling pockets.
