‘E1’ exclusive for Brighton Circle

Rapido Trains has revealed that it is planning an exclusive ‘OO’ gauge model of sole surviving London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LBSCR) ‘E1’ 0-6-0T 110 in Marsh lined black for The Brighton Circle, subject to sufficient orders being received.

The prototype locomotive entered service in 1877 as 110 Burgundy and was one of 78 ‘E1s’ built for the LBSCR. Withdrawn from service in 1927, it found a second lease of life at the Cannock and Rugeley Colliery, gaining a new pattern boiler in the process. 

Following withdrawal in 1963, the locomotive entered preservation and is currently at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, having been acquired in 2012. The intention is to build a new boiler and restore it as W2 Yarmouth, a classmate that ran on the Isle of Wight.

This model will utilise Rapido Trains’ all-new tooling for the ‘E1’ and will feature locomotive-specific detailing such as Stroudley boiler and chimney, cast iron brake blocks, later style smokebox door, condensing pipes and open coal rails. It will also include a Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) socket, sprung buffers, NEM pockets and factory fitted speaker.

Available exclusively through Rapido Trains’ website, profits from the newly-tooled 'OO' gauge model will be donated by the Brighton Circle to LBSCR preservation projects. In order for the model to proceed, a minimum of 100 pre-orders are required.

Priced at £164.95 DCC ready and £264.95 DCC sound-fitted, release is expected later this year.
