The LBSCR ‘E1’ was designed by William Stroudley in 1874, 79 were built for short distance trains. Withdrawals started in 1908, but did not conclude until 1961. One survives, B110 on the Isle of Wight.

Rapido’s planned ‘OO’ gauge tooling allows for a large number of variations to be detailed such as two styles of side tank, three smoke box doors, four styles of wheels, two buffer beams, two smoke boxes, three chimneys, two domes, two safety valves, two safety valve casings and more.

Liveries planned include LBSCR improved engine green, goods green, Marsh umber plus Southern black and BR black with early emblem. There will also be Isle of Wight locomotives together Hartley Main Colliery colours and BR lined black on W4 only.

The locomotives will have a Next18 DCC decoder. Prices start at £164.95 DCC ready and rise to £264.95 DCC sound fitted with release expected in 2024.
