Locomotion Model’s latest commission has arrived in the shape of an unusual prototype – the APT-E. Mark Chivers asks whether a ‘full tilt’ approach has paid off.

How times change. It wasn’t that long ago that the prospect of manufacturing a ready-to-run ‘OO’ gauge model of a prototype with limited operating sphere, single livery and short career would have been unthinkable. However, thanks to a growing number of entrepreneurial retailers, models that might not have previously seen the light of day are now proving economically viable.
