Realtrack Models has received the first engineering samples of its all-new ‘OO’ gauge model of the Class 142 two-car ‘Pacer’ DMU from Accurascale.
The Class 142s were introduced in 1985 with 96 two-car units completed by BREL in Derby. Initially they used Leyland TL engines. Refurbishment was carried out between 1997 and 2003 with the last units being withdrawn from passenger service in 2020. During their careers the Class 142s had a strong association with the North West and South Wales and 26 sets have been preserved.
The new ‘OO’ gauge model is being developed to replicate the units in original condition with four-piece ‘jack-knife’ doors as well as in later condition with two-piece doors. The specification includes exterior and interior lighting, a highly detailed underframe, a low-profile mechanism with micro gears to allow for the underfloor parts, BSI couplings and a DCC ready chassis.
Pre-order prices are set at £250 per unit by Realtrack Models with each production run limited to 200 pieces. Liveries will cover Greater Manchester PTE orange, chocolate and cream, Provincial, Northern, Arriva Trains Wales and Mersey Rail schemes with two running numbers available on all liveries apart from the Mersey Rail yellow set.
A release date is to be confirmed with the engineering samples currently being evaluated by the development team before progressing to decoration samples.
