Ever the innovator, Ukraine’s ResKit now offers ‘Yellow Jersey’ US Navy deck crew figures, in the three main scales, as CHRIS CLIFFORD reports.
Anyone who’s studied US aircraft carrier operations will know of the coloured vest system employed to denote the different jobs of deck crew. If you’re considering a carrier launch diorama in either 1/72, 1/48 or 1/32 scale, ResKit’s Yellow Jersey figure set is invaluable. Yellow is the colour warn by aircraft directors, plus catapult and arresting gear officers – responsible for moving aircraft on the flight deck and while in the hangar bay. With Reskit’s figure set, you get four crew members in different poses. The most dynamic of the quartet is the ‘shooter’, posed crouching and with two fingers pointing forwards, signifying time to launch.
Another subject is crouching with a raised ‘thumbs up’, while the third stands with arms raised and fists balled. The last figure stands with legs apart and arms raised at the ‘ten-to-two’ position. Note that there may be a degree of transition between poses displayed here, having checked the US Navy General Aircraft Hand Signals manual.
