REVELL SCORPION GAINS NEW IDENTITIES

As CHRIS CLIFFORD discovers, Revell has added new markings to its re-released 1/48 F-89C Scorpion in 75th anniversary packaging.

REVELL SCORPION GAINS NEW IDENTITIES

On opening the unnecessarily large box housing Revell’s returning F-89C, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a 1980s Monogram product. Raised panel lines are the tell-tale sign, but major junctions between airframe and flying control surfaces are, thankfully, engraved. The answer may lie in the fact that at the time of the kit’s release in 1990, both Monogram and Revell were acquired by a private equity firm. Look at the instructions of Revell’s original F-89C and they scream Monogram in design, even though there’s a Revell logo on the front page.
