Alan Price revisits Airfix’s splendid 1/48 Sea Fury and dresses it as a Cuban machine, with a selection of extra detail products

Airfix’s Sea Fury was well received by modellers when it arrived on the scene approximately 18 months ago and this subsequent release caters for export machines, complete with all-new box artwork.

In the intervening period, aftermarket companies have produced a host of accessories for the kit, which has now been re-released with new markings, and contains the same styrene parts as the initial offering, presented on six runners. As time was of the essence due to the deadline, a careful selection of upgrade items was made, to avoid duplicating detail where possible (see panel).

Resin delights

I had recently built a Sea Fury using Barracuda’s cockpit set, so I knew it was straightforward to fit, and this was where construction began. This upgrade is designed specifically to fit Airfix’s kit so, as can be imagined, it wasn’t too difficult to install. The only modification to the styrene was to alter the cockpit canopy sides, as per Barracuda’s instructions, and this was accomplished swiftly with a file.
