Revolution Trains is best known for its home-grown products in ‘N’ and ‘OO’ gauge, but it is testing the waters in ‘O’ gauge with the commissioning of this limited edition Class 37/4 from Heljan.
The locomotive of choice is 37405 which is decorated in full Direct Rail Services Compass livery and is available now direct from Revolution Trains. 37405 was built at English Electric’s Vulcan Foundry in 1965 and was completed on May 13 that year.
Its first number was D6982 and it was despatched to South Wales on delivery to work from Cardiff Canton depot. It was renumbered 37282 in 1974 - by now painted in BR blue - but remained as a South Wales machine through the 1960s and 1970s until being chosen for refurbishment as an Electric Train Heat (ETH) equipped Class 37/4 in 1984. Following completion
of its overhaul, it made a brief appearance on the North Wales coast on test runs from Crewe Works before being transferred to Eastfield depot in Scotland carrying its new identity – 37405.
By now 37405 had been repainted in BR ‘large logo’ blue livery and became a regular on Fort William-
Mallaig and Fort William-Glasgow Queen Street …
