SBS’ CAUDRON RACER UPSCALED

Fans of racing aircraft rejoiced when Hungary’s SBS Model produced an all-new 1/72 Caudron C.561 last year. Now, the firm has released a 1/48 version, which is just as classy.

There have been several boutique kits of this super-streamlined early 1930s racer but they are now hard to find. So, SBS Model pleased many last year with its release of a superb 1/72 resin kit of the type. Our review of that item is here

In a move that will please modellers who favour larger scales, though, SBS has now enlarged its 1/72 product to 1/48. Everything appears to be the same… just bigger! Like its forerunner, the design and detail are sublime, the parts mostly being in resin but with a fret of photo-etched brass components to ensure extra refinement. These comprise seatbelts, an instrument panel, tail skid, cockpit controls and undercarriage bay doors. A beautifully clear resin cockpit glazing part is also present, along with a small decal sheet for the tail and propeller markings.

This is a stunning kit for anyone interested in racing aircraft, and will look superb with the requisite care and attention. It’s available direct from www.sbsmodel.com for 60 €, or via Hannants in the UK.
