Sonic Models GWR Large ‘Prairie’ decorated samples

Decorated samples of Sonic Models’ forthcoming Great Western Railway (GWR) ‘Large Prairie’ 2-6-2T in ‘N’ gauge have arrived for inspection.

The ‘5101’ class was a Collett update of the older Churchward ‘5100’/’3100’ 2-6-2Ts and they were used on local passenger trains throughout the GWR system. The similar ‘6100s’ received a higher pressure boiler for use on London commuter services.

Sonic Models’ tooling covers both versions. Promised features include a die-cast chassis block, coreless 12volt motor, 6-pin DCC decoder socket, all-wheel pick-up, NEM socket-mounted ‘N’ gauge couplings and fine scale coupling and connecting rods.

Five liveries are planned with the models due to appear in GWR green, British Railways green, BR lined and unlined black and lined BR Brunswick green.

The models are slated for release in 2024, priced at £129.95 each.
