Italian Air Force fans will surely celebrate the reintroduction of Italeri’s 1/72 SM.79 Sparviero, reviewed here by CHRIS CLIFFORD.

SPARROWHAWK: ITALERI RELEASES SM.79 BOMBER VERSION

Arguably one of Italeri’s best aircraft toolings, the SM.79 Sparviero (sparrowhawk) is now available again in its bomber format (rather than the torpedo carrier) as item 1412, with new decals. Compared to the 1976-vintage Airfix kit, it’s apparent immediately that Italeri’s product is much more modern, having debuted in 2003, and as a result benefits from reasonably fine panel line engraving, impressive engines and a fairly well-appointed cockpit. It does disappoint in some respects, in that no vertical bomb racks or bomb-aimer equipment is supplied, but you do receive the ventral machine gun.
