First issued in 1977, this Group 5 powerhouse has been re-released to the delight of race car fans. It’s reviewed here by CHRIS CLIFFORD.
Ostensibly, Tamiya’s 1/20 Porsche 935 is something of an anomaly, as the Japanese manufacturer usually offers Formula 1 cars in this scale. It does look surprisingly large when you are used to building cars in 1/24. However, while Tamiya has also produced the 935 in the smaller scale, replication in 1/20 does ensure more presence. The larger scale was chosen in the first place to accommodate a motor and batteries… difficult at the time with 1/24 cars. Certainly considered state of the art on its initial release, the kit is not quite up to the mark in matching the quality of more modern toolings of racing Porsches. But it’s still eminently buildable and will look fetching in the supplied Martini sponsor livery.
