TMD Thornley

With inspiration from Thornaby and Tinsley depots STEVE SMITH looked to the 1980s for his first ever major layout to recreate the atmosphere of a busy TMD in ‘OO’ gauge.

1 A pair of work worn BR blue Class 20s move slowly out of the depot at Thornley TMD in the company of Class 08s, 37s, 47s and 56s. The warehouses in the background are by Skytrex.

MY NAME IS STEVE Smith. I’m 53 and welcome to my very first exhibition layout build – Thornley TMD. Set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Thornley is a fictional place based around Yorkshire and covers the BR blue era up to the subsectored grey liveries that once could be seen around the country in abundance.
