Bedford, UK-based VFR Models is carrying the torch for modellers who favour civil aircraft types, especially with its 1/72 Grumman American AA-5.

General Aviation is very poorly served by kit manufacturers, in comparison to military and vintage machines. So, it’s great to see concerns such as one-man-band VFR Models providing suitable kits. They involve a mix of cast resin and 3D-printed parts, and well-researched markings, demonstrated by this 1/72 Grumman American AA-5.

Above: The fuselage is cast in resin and has very fine rivet detail around the base portions of the wings and horizontal stabilisers.

Above: Resin is also use for the wings, and horizontal/vertical stabilisers. All have engraved panel lines.

The AA-5 was originally built by American Aviation from 1971, and it was based on the company’s earlier AA-1. Then AA was bought by manufacturing giant Grumman, but the AA-5 continued to be produced and developed by the new owner. This kit allows you to build the ‘vanilla’ AA-5 Traveler, AA-5A Cheetah and AA-5B Tiger.
