INDUSTRY-STANDARD HUES
MODELLERS MAY have heard of Tru-Color Paint because of its excellent railway-associated products, but it also specialises in military, auto and infrastructure shades.
These solvent-based acrylics are matched to current Federal Standard tones, colour chips or historical evidence and will dry with either a matt or satin sheen, so a gloss varnish will be required for decaling. Tru-Color paints are designed to be airbrushed and are pre-diluted, although the firm also supplies thinners and a retarder to ensure a smooth finish. There are two paint bottle sizes: 1 floz (30ml) and 2 floz (60ml), retailing for US$5.69 and US$10.25 respectively, with a larger 16 floz (473ml) container available for thinners and varnishes. The firm has also released a series of paint sets, and the first three are Southeast Asia Scheme I & II (10601), Modern Rader Dispersers (10602 – for F-35 and F-22s) and Army-Navy WWII Aircraft Set 1 (10604); these contain six colours in each pack for US$32.95.
