Stu Fone finds both good and less-pleasing aspects while appraising Trumpeter's eargerly anticipated new-tool 1/72 A-6A Intruder.
For many years, the only decent 1/72 A-6 Intruder kits have been Fujimi’s increasingly hard-to-find products, plus those from Italeri – all of which are beginning to show their age. However, Chinese firm Trumpeter has now stepped up to the plate with a new-tool offering. At first glance impressions are positive, with fine engraved panel lines on the airframe exterior (plus no sign of Trumpeter’s 'mad riveter') and crisply moulded detail for the interior. These and other features indicate that this is a scaled-down version of the existing 1/32 and 1/48 Intruders – indeed it has the same fin-top mistake as the others, being too curved in shape (although that should be easy to rectify with plastic card).
