Tyrell Models’ tool range is growing exponentially and there’s something to suit almost any modeller. Fresh items have just become available, so let’s look at each in turn…

Dspiae Dawning Cutting Bits Holder (PT-TH, above)
This super-comfortable, lightweight handle has a silicone-wrapped chuck section for good grip and a triangular main handle. It’s designed to accommodate Dspiae’s differently sized tungsten steel broach bits. Combine these with the handle and you essentially have a superb, ergonomically designed scribing pen. Its locking shaft is fitted with a magnet so the broach won’t fall out once the chuck is loosened. The broaches, available separately, are sized to the following: 0.1, 0.125, 0.2. 0.3, 0.5 and 1mm, and you can also buy a handy storage box to accommodate them all. The handle costs £9.99, while each steel broach is £18.99. Dspiae even supplies triangular stickers, each stating a broach size, so you can apply the relevant sticker to the very end of the handle… reminding you which size you are using.

Modellers’ Parallel Line Scribing Tool (AT-PST, above)
Another item by Dspiae, priced at £19.99, this is excellent for scribing parallel lines on plastic card and kit parts. Modellers who tackle vintage models with raised panel lines can benefit here. If the lines run parallel to a straight wing leading/trailing edge, or wingtip, you can simply sand away the raised lines, mark corner points if necessary and re-scribe easily using Dspiae’s tool. It has a maximum scribing length of 80mm, the triangular blade is tungsten carbide and the sliding support stop can be adjusted and runs smoothly.

Sponge Sanding Discs (above)
Certain sanding jobs need a little extra help beyond simple sections of hand-held abrasive paper. Dspiae’s sanding discs are superb, coming in small or large sizes (the latter having a 10mm diameter). They are self-adhesive and come with a chuck adapter designed to fit Dspiae’s Electric Grinding Pen. As an example, the pack of large discs features 24 discs per grade, these being 400, 600, 800 and 1,000. They are handy for all manner of detail sanding tasks, plus fine-tuning resin parts once removed their casting blocks. They can also be used to remove surface blemishes by working through the grades (you can use water with the discs). Both large and small selections are £4.99 each.

Aluminium Alloy Panel Liner (AT-PL, above)
Engraved/scribed lines on a model usually benefit from some kind of wash to accentuate the detail. While many modellers simply use a paintbrush, this can be slightly messy. One way to obtain much neater panel line highlighting is to use Dspiae’s Panel Liner which, essentially, acts like a super-fine fountain pen and is especially good if you want a clean finish on your model. New levels of accuracy with oil/acrylic washes and inks can be achieved with this quality metal alloy pen, which has a screw-thread nib cover and is weighted to ensure better control. The nib is arguably the finest on the market, inspired by calligraphy work, and has a large reservoir so you don’t have to waste time in constant replenishment. Ideal for finishing on aircraft, armour, sci-fi, auto and other builds, it costs £9.99

Precision Tweezers (MMPT, above)
It’s maddening when you have a delicate modelling task but your ageing tweezers don’t stand up to the task. It’s either a case of they just aren’t fine enough, or the points are bent and don’t meet properly when trying to manipulate very small items. There are no such fears with these ultra-fine tweezers from Luxianzi, which can grab components down to 0.01mm. Ideal for holding fine wire, very small decals and photo-etched (PE) metal details – or removing stickier-than-expected self-adhesive paint masks from their backing sheet, or the recipient model. Not the cheapest set of tweezers out there, at £19.99, but you get what you pay for and these will almost certainly outperform anything currently in your toolbox.

Lastly, we have a combination of items mainly targeted at sci-fi/Macross anime fans, but can also be employed by scratch-builders across the modelling genres. Macross machinery, of which there is much in kit form, often features circular panels with different patterns. If you want to add more to your chosen kit, Tyrell offers everything you need via the following products…

Galaxy Tools Flat Bottom Round Hole Tool (TO9810)
This is a selection of ten small, medium or large circle-cutting blades (£22.99), which are profiled to start with a point but then spread to the finished width. The blade is inserted into Galaxy Tools’ TO9G Knife Handle and simply rotated on the models surface. A perfectly formed circular recess is the result. You can then insert the circular barred device, provide via a photo-etched metal fret carrying scores of these in varying diameters. We received the ‘small’ set, which offers cutting blades from 1mm-1.90mm. Note that the Knife Handle costs £9.99 and each set of PE circles is £7.50.
