Online retailer Tyrell Models has produced its own workstation for modellers, as CHRIS CLIFFORD discovers.
Whether you model in a shed, garden office, converted bedroom, dining room or other selected area, Tyrell Models’ luxurious new Workstation could be just what you’re looking for. It’s a substantial premium item, with the laser-cut, rigid gloss acrylic baseboard measuring 64 x 64cm and featuring a recess for an A2 cutting mat also supplied. The Workstation on its own gives you ample room to tackle a model and have your tools within easy reach. It's the product of two years' research and development by Tyrell proprietor David Howell.
The clever bit is the modular storage; this forms a handy two-line rack for paint brushes, sanding sticks, knives, files and a wealth of other items. A nifty addition is the masking tape holder with its own serrated-edge cutter, but there’s also a magnetic square with raised edges, a single removeable storage box, plus a small ‘drawer unit’ holding four more storage boxes. A perfectly sized square section is obviously aimed at accommodating a bottle of Tamiya liquid cement. However, the multitude of storage sections means you can position all manner of tools and components neately.
All the interlocking ZEP storage segments are 3D printed using sturdy polylactic plastic – and individual parts can be replaced with different items to suit. Meanwhile, the quality A2 cutting mat is double-sided with a wealth of grid/pattern/measurement detail. It took just 15 minutes to assemble all the storage units on our sample, so it’s quick and easy to make ready for use. The only sticking point for some may be the price of £184.99. It might seem excessive (and not accessible for those on a budget), but the quality of this workstation is second to none and it should last a lifetime given careful use. Note that the Workstation is available via worldwide shipping. To order, or simply find out more, visit Tyrell Models.
