Modellers considering Cold War aircraft builds have heaps of reference in a splendid new hardback , says CHRIS CLIFFORD
The US Air Force has had a constant presence on UK soil since World War Two. Its bases were also sited on mainland Europe, with some still extant, and these assets as a whole were/are known as the United States Air Forces in Europe. Modellers particularly living in East Anglia have been treated to a steady procession of relevant aircraft to inspire build projects over the years, courtesy of bases such as Alconbury, Bentwaters, Woodbridge, Lakenheath and Sculthorpe.
Indeed, I myself have fond memories of Alconbury-based A-10s flying past my comprehensive school in the 1980s (guaranteed to brighten any maths lesson), besides RAF Jaguars, Tornados, Hunters and Canberras. For East Anglian modellers keen on USAF aircraft stationed locally, or anyone keen on building US fighters that have called the wider UK home, Fonthill Media has just the book you’re looking for.
