In the latest issue of Hornby Magazine (HM160) we take a detail look at Hornby's new Hornby Dublo inspired model of Stanier 'Duchess' 6231 Duchess of Atholl. Watch this new release in action on our test track here.

Hornby Dublo Duchess

A SIGNATURE item in Hornby's Centenary range is this magnificent model of Stanier 'Duchess' 6231 Duchess of Atholl. This identity was the first given to Hornby Dublo's model of the prototype when it was released in 1947, and the new edition also harks back to the original in featuring Hornby Dublo styled packaging and a die-cast metal body for the locomotive.

Hornby Dublo Duchess

Duchess of Atholl is turned out in original LMS crimson lake livery, just like the Hornby Dublo model of the late 1940s, but the whole production is to modern standards. The mechanism inside is identical to that of the latest generation 'Duchesses' from Hornby and it also has an 8-pin decoder socket and space for a 28mm round speaker in the tender.

Naturally we were keen to put this exciting new addition to the test on Topley Dale where it looked superb at the head of a rake of Stanier Period III corridor stock - albeit in BR rather than LMS maroon.
