Hornby's new standard edition Rocket train pack (R3810) is here. We take a closer look and showcase it running side by side with Hornby's Centenary edition pack (R3809) on our office test track in this video feature.

Rocket train packs

HORNBY'S 2020 range model of Stephenson's Rocket have been hugely popular. The limited edition centenary pack sold out quickly, but now the standard edition featuring different carriage names and yellow packaging (as opposed to the Tri-ang style box of the limited edition) is now here.

To celebrate its arrival we put the new pack alongside the special edition on our test track to showcase their running qualities. The new standard edition comes with carriages Globe, Renown and Wellington, while the locomotive is identical to the special edition. Also included in the pack is a pair of pre-painted crew figures and coupling chains to link the vehicles together. A 6-pin DCC decoder socket is provided in the water barrel on the tender of Rocket.

Rocket is a stunning little model - in fact the full train length is only just over 25mm longer than a Stanier 'Princess Royal' on its own, highlights the Stephenson 0-2-2's diminutive dimensions.
