VIDEO: S Stock digital sound
In the latest issue of Hornby Magazine we show how to install DCC sound and lights into Bachmann's London Transport Museum S Stock. MIKE WILD showcases the finished result in this video using Legomanbiffo's latest ESU sound files.
IN THE LATEST issue of Hornby Magazine we show step by step how to install Legomanbiffo's new sound file for the London Transport S Stock into the 'OO' gauge model.
The new sound file uses the ESU LokSound 5 21-pin decoder platform as its basis and is feature-rich with sound and lighting functions. In total there are 29 functions on board which include separate keys for directional lighting, cab lighting, interior lighting, arc flash and even door opening lights. In addition there are the main running sounds, door opening and closing sounds, brakes, 'Mind the Gap' announcements, destination announcements and more.
As delivered the S Stock is quite simple in its technology, as it only has a 21-pin decoder socket, directional lights and space for a 23mm round speaker. Though it was only made in 2015, times have moved on greatly since then with the latest Bachmann Class 117 DMU being a good indicator of the potential of factory installed electronics. Nevertheless, there is plenty of room inside the S Stock to add custom features which the Legomanbiffo sound decoder caters for. Adding them means being adept with a soldering iron to make connections on small tabs on the decoder, but it is all possible, as we show in our step by step guide with HM158.
Our completed model features independent directional lights, cab lights and saloon interior lights plus the addition of arc flash LEDs under the leading bogie of each driving car.
Watch our video here to see its features in action and check out the full step by step guide either in HM158 - on sale from July 2 2020 - or online here on KeyModelWorld.
Note: Please accept the lack of third and fourth rail in our photographs and videos, as we don't currently have a London Underground style layout to photograph models on.
